Ronald Ross Primary

Welcome to Nursery and Reception

Every child deserves the best possible start in life and the support that enables them to fulfil their potential. Children develop quickly in the early years and a child’s experiences between birth and age five have a major impact on their future life chances. A secure, safe and happy childhood is important in its own right. Good parenting and high quality early learning together provide the foundation children need to make the most of their abilities and talents as they grow up.

At Ronald Ross Primary School Early Years we follow the Statutory Framework for the Early Years Foundation Stage 2021 and have adopted some principles of the High/Scope approach to learning, which has influenced the philosophy underpinning our Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS).

The EYFS is based upon the seven key features of effective practice:

  1. The best for every child
  2. High-quality care.
  3. The curriculum: what we want children to learn
  4. Pedagogy: helping children to learn.
  5. Assessment: checking what children have learnt.
  6. Self-regulation and executive function.
  7. Partnership with parents.
